Postnatal (Puerperium) Care in the home

Mundo’s Midwives insist on postnatal maternity care, at least for the medical checks of mother and baby for the first seven days after the birth. During these medical checks, the mother’s temperature, heart rate, position of the uterus, and the condition of the sutures and breasts will be checked. The baby’s temperature, weight, and colour should be noted down each day, as well as the number of poop and pee diapers and how the feedings are going.

However, we recommend you arrange for a postnatal care nurse who provides you with more than just the basic care. You can ask your postnatal care office what the possibilities are. Please note that many maternity care offices require you to hire them for at least a couple or more hours each day. After a normal childbirth, a woman is entitled to approximately 44 hours of maternity care. If there were any complications during the delivery or after, we can make sure you get a couple of extra hours a day of postnatal care, up until the tenth day after the birth. After this, you have no more legal right to postnatal care.
