Breastfeeding

Breast milk contains everything that your baby needs. It provides all the necessary nutrients and protects your baby against all kinds of infections and allergies. Later on in your baby’s life, it reduces the risk of obesity, diabetes and hypertension. Breast milk always has the perfect temperature, it is free, and it comes in a beautiful and environmentally friendly package!

For you as a mother, too, breastfeeding your baby has many advantages. Breastfeeding causes your uterus to contract and shrink, which helps cut off and collapse the open blood vessels after birth. Prolonged breastfeeding will eventually reduce the risk of breast cancer and cervical cancer.

However, breastfeeding does not always come naturally. Sometimes it may take some extra time or attention for you and your baby to get it right. Especially during the first week, things might not go as smoothly or easily as you might have hoped. Together with your nurse, we will take as much time and effort as we can to help you. If there are any specific problems, we will call in Rachel Weggeman, Mundo’s lactation specialist. Most health insurers reimburse a lactation consult.
